Alright. You're grasping at straws. I'm out. I really like that the “swedish” actors actually has a swedish accent unlike tall girl that was a catastrophe. Mvh a Swede. After 20 years a member on IMDB i finally found a movie that made me want to write my first review. For the rest of the world Midsommar plays out like yet another Bizarre Cult movie. There are dozens of those out there and as such it is actually quite good. For me as a Swede thou, this one goes through the roof and out into the stratosphere. There are so many Swedish cultural references in this, often taken completely out of context and twisted through a Jodorowskij/IngmarBergman filter, if such a thing could exist. Its the closest thing i can think of to describe this anyway. The result is an incredible mad mess of mushrooms, midsummer flowers, pubic hair and violence. If you have a narrow closed up mind you will complain about how this is a totally unrealistic description of Swedish traditions and folklore in general, and midsummer in particular. Or, if you like me can keep an open mind to things like this, go with the flow of beautiful and sometimes quite absurd images, drop your grip on reality and just enjoy one of the most entertaining movies in many years.

The person chosen had to be divinely compatible - blond hair, blue eyes, white skin - and disposable if you are a guy. But if you were a divine girl, come, stay, and be their sister. Dani's pouting face was the only horror in this film.

Tbh forget the cult stuff, traveling with people who don't like me and didn't want me to come is already the scariest thing in the world. I actually do remember seeing something with the name Caligari in the movie if my memory serves well. That's eye opening... What a turd of a movie. It was obvious nearly immediately it was directed by the same guy as Hereditary because. it's basically the same movie. Movie tries way to hard to be creepy and weird and falls on its face. The whole thing is just her trip, her experience of it. The family doesn't understand exactly what she's going through, and cuz of that are not there for her (don't respond to her) so they die, it's about feeling alone in the process of letting go, from denying the issues, to regaining clarity and finally, personal strength. And all throug the eyes of a girl depicted as a a character with inferiority complex and/or impostor syndrome, smthng many ppl keep struggling with on a regular basis) who by the end finally doesn't apologise for her own choices, and in this instance- burning the bridge (the temple) instead she smiles from relief. It's rly a beautiful movie ♡ but I def wouldn't label it as horror. Maybe a psychological drama/ thriller. I still dont feel comfortable getting a job in my neighborhood out of fear that its a place frequented by any of them. But it gets easier every day.
